Metroid: Harmony of a Hunter - Album Review

Time for something a little different! I don't claim to be a music expert, so excuse my opinion. Still, Metroid music is, has been, and will always be awesome, so it'd be good to go over something recent. All the major players are here as well as a good amount of remixers I've never even heard of! Truly a testament to how many dedicated fans there are to Metroid, even if Nintendo is focusing on Zelda's 25th birthday. With that, it's music time.

Well, there isn't much to split it up by, so this'll be short, sweet, and to the point. I can be concise too!
The remixes encompass every single Metroid game, as it should be. This is the 25th anniversary fan project, after all. The majority of remixes are electronic/techno-style stuff, so if you don't like that you won't find a lot to like here. Any fans of the original music will appreciate all the different melodies, though, and that's a good thing. The sign of a good remix to my listening ears is something that I can recognize but also enjoy as a standalone piece of music. The album largely succeeds in this regard, though with so many tracks, there are some that aren't as good. Stemage of Metroid Metal gets one remix here, and as is the norm, his stuff is stellar. Thankfully, there's a lot of other good talent here and that's all the better for my favorite game series in both music and atmosphere.
Which brings us to the last part and the most important. Does the album create the atmosphere that is so wonderfully rendered by the Metroid series' original music? Indeed it does. Most of the tracks generally follow the same pitch as its original counterpart, so it's nothing to get worked up about. I imagine there will be some who aren't happy with how it turns out, but for me? I always appreciate a good remix, and there's plenty of those to be found. Here's to many more milestone anniversaries, Metroid. Mission Complete.
Score: 9/10
