Kamen Rider Fourze - First Episode Thoughts

The show's first episode, titled "Youthful Henshin", literally just aired this weekend. It wasn't the strongest opening Rider's ever had, but I don't think I was going to expect that much anyway. After having been pretty lukewarm to OOO, this wasn't a priority to watch. However, glad I did and it was just full of energy all the way through from the opening.

LET'S GO! FOURZE YEAH!

The starting scene is set 17 years in the past, and these astronauts are on the moon. One finds something, but then the moon base starts blowing up. Kinda seems like every Rider series starts with something exploding...can't say it isn't a good way for a kids' show to grab attention, though.

We are then introduced to Amanogawa High School, where Gentarou Kisaragi is a new transfer student from...wherever in Japan he's from. He wants to be friends with everyone, which is kinda cool, and he also recognizes Yuuki, a friend from grade school. The first half of the episode focuses on Gentarou's getting used to high school - naturally, he gets shoved around by the jock and his cheerleader girlfriend. But hey, high school is high school, right?

The rest of the episode is a treat with some really cool effects as well as a nice set for the heroes' space base. Fourze himself looks a little silly, but the Astro Switches work well and they're interesting if problematic to take out and use.
But yeah! I liked it, seemed like it finished a little quickly, but that's what happens when there's a new show. I don't know what to expect from the story but the action is good - being Sakamoto, man's so good at it. Will be keeping up with the show if only for the action. Recommended.

Why didn't I do this for OOO/Gokaiger? Well...um. Cause.
